يَـٰٓ أَيُّهَا ٱ لۡمُدَّثِّرُ ١
EN · Sahih Intl. O you who covers himself [with a garment],1

74. Al-Muddaththir (56 Ayahs)
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 2
قُمۡ فَأَنذ ِرۡ ٢
EN · Sahih Intl. Arise and warn.
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 3
وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرۡ ٣
EN · Sahih Intl. And your Lord glorify.
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 4
وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرۡ ٤
EN · Sahih Intl. And your clothing purify.
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 5
وَٱ ل رُّجۡ زَ فَٱ هۡجُرۡ ٥
EN · Sahih Intl. And uncleanliness1 avoid.
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 6
وَلَا تَمۡنُن ت َسۡتَكۡثِرُ ٦
EN · Sahih Intl. And do not confer favor to acquire more1.
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 7
وَلِرَبِّكَ فَٱ صۡبِرۡ ٧
EN · Sahih Intl. But for your Lord be patient.
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 8
فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِى ٱ ل نّ َاقُو رِ ٨
EN · Sahih Intl. And when the trumpet is blown,
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 9
فَذٰ ذٍ ي َوۡمٌ عَسِي رٌ ٩
EN · Sahih Intl. That Day will be a difficult day
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 10
عَلَى ٱ لۡكَـٰ فِرِينَ غَيۡرُ يَسِي رٍ ١٠
EN · Sahih Intl. For the disbelievers - not easy.
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 11
ذَرۡنِى وَمَنۡ خَلَقۡ تُ وَحِيدًا ١١
EN · Sahih Intl. Leave Me with the one I created alone1
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 12
وَجَعَلۡتُ لَهُۥ مَالاً م َّمۡدُودًا ١٢
EN · Sahih Intl. And to whom I granted extensive wealth
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 13
وَبَنِينَ شُهُودًا ١٣
EN · Sahih Intl. And children present [with him]
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 14
وَمَهَّد تُّ لَهُۥ تَمۡهِيدًا ١٤
EN · Sahih Intl. And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life].
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 15
ثُمّ َ يَطۡ مَعُ أَنۡ أَزِي د َ ١٥
EN · Sahih Intl. Then he desires that I should add more.
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 16
كَلَّآۖ إِنّ َهُۥ كَانَ لِأَيَـٰ تِنَا عَنِيدًا ١٦
EN · Sahih Intl. No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate.
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 17
سَأُرۡهِقُهُۥ صَعُودًا ١٧
EN · Sahih Intl. I will cover him with arduous torment.
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 18
إِنّ َهُۥ فَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَ ١٨
EN · Sahih Intl. Indeed, he thought and deliberated.1
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 19
فَقُتِلَ كَيۡفَ قَدَّرَ ١٩
EN · Sahih Intl. So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated.
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 20
ثُمّ َ قُتِلَ كَيۡفَ قَدَّرَ ٢٠
EN · Sahih Intl. Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated.
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 21
ثُمّ َ نَظَرَ ٢١
EN · Sahih Intl. Then he considered [again];
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 22
ثُمّ َ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ ٢٢
EN · Sahih Intl. Then he frowned and scowled;
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 23
ثُمّ َ أَدۡ بَرَ وَٱ سۡتَكۡبَرَ ٢٣
EN · Sahih Intl. Then he turned back and was arrogant
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 24
فَقَالَ إِنۡ هَـٰ ذَآ إِلَّا سِحۡرٌ ي ُؤۡثَرُ ٢٤
EN · Sahih Intl. And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others].
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 25
إِنۡ هَـٰ ذَآ إِلَّا قَوۡلُ ٱ لۡبَشَرِ ٢٥
EN · Sahih Intl. This is not but the word of a human being."
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 26
سَأُصۡلِيهِ سَقَرَ ٢٦
EN · Sahih Intl. I will drive him into Saqar.1
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 27
وَمَآ أَدۡ رَٮٰ كَ مَا سَقَرُ ٢٧
EN · Sahih Intl. And what can make you know what is Saqar?
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 28
لَا تُبۡ قِى وَلَا تَذَرُ ٢٨
EN · Sahih Intl. It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned],
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 29
لَوَّاحَةٌ ل ِّلۡبَشَرِ ٢٩
EN · Sahih Intl. Altering [i.e., blackening] the skins.
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 30
عَلَيۡهَا تِسۡعَةَ عَشَرَ ٣٠
EN · Sahih Intl. Over it are nineteen [angels].
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 31
وَمَا جَعَلۡنَآ أَصۡحَـٰ بَ ٱ ل نّ َارِ إِلَّا مَلَـٰٓ ئِكَةًۙ و َمَا جَعَلۡنَا عِدَّتَهُمۡ إِلَّا فِتۡنَةً ل ِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواۡ لِيَسۡتَيۡقِنَ ٱ لَّذِينَ أُوتُواۡ ٱ لۡكِتَـٰ بَ وَيَزۡدَادَ ٱ لَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓ اۡ إِيمَـٰ نًاۙ و َلَا يَرۡتَابَ ٱ لَّذِينَ أُوتُواۡ ٱ لۡكِتَـٰ بَ وَٱ لۡمُؤۡمِنُونَۙ وَلِيَقُولَ ٱ لَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِم م َّرَضٌ و َٱ لۡكَـٰ فِرُونَ مَاذَآ أَرَادَ ٱ للَّهُ بِهَـٰ ذَا مَثَلاًۚ ك َذٰ ٱ للَّهُ مَن ي َشَا ٓءُ وَيَهۡدِى مَن ي َشَا ٓءُۚ وَمَا يَعۡلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلَّا هُوَۚ وَمَا هِىَ إِلَّا ذِكۡرَىٰ لِلۡبَشَرِ ٣١
EN · Sahih Intl. And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is disease [i.e., hypocrisy] and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allāh intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allāh send astray whom He wills and guide whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And it [i.e., mention of the Fire] is not but a reminder to humanity.
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 32
كَلَّا وَٱ لۡقَمَرِ ٣٢
EN · Sahih Intl. No! By the moon.
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 33
وَٱ لَّيۡلِ إِذۡ أَدۡ بَرَ ٣٣
EN · Sahih Intl. And [by] the night when it departs.
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 34
وَٱ ل صُّبۡ حِ إِذَآ أَسۡفَرَ ٣٤
EN · Sahih Intl. And [by] the morning when it brightens,
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 35
إِنّ َهَا لَإِحۡدَى ٱ لۡكُبَرِ ٣٥
EN · Sahih Intl. Indeed, it [i.e., the Fire] is of the greatest [afflictions].
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 36
نَذِيرًا ل ِّلۡبَشَرِ ٣٦
EN · Sahih Intl. As a warning to humanity -
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 37
لِمَن ش َا ٓءَ مِنك ُمۡ أَن ي َتَقَدَّمَ أَوۡ يَتَأَخَّرَ ٣٧
EN · Sahih Intl. To whoever wills among you to proceed1 or stay behind.
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 38
كُلُّ نَفۡسِۭ ب ِمَا كَسَبَتۡ رَهِينَةٌ ٣٨
EN · Sahih Intl. Every soul, for what it has earned, will be retained1.
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 39
إِلَّآ أَصۡحَـٰ بَ ٱ لۡيَمِي نِ ٣٩
EN · Sahih Intl. Except the companions of the right,1.
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 40
فِى جَنّ َـٰ تٍ ي َتَسَا ٓءَلُو نَ ٤٠
EN · Sahih Intl. [Who will be] in gardens, questioning each other
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 41
عَنِ ٱ لۡمُجۡ رِمِي نَ ٤١
EN · Sahih Intl. About the criminals,
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 42
مَا سَلَكَكُمۡ فِى سَقَرَ ٤٢
EN · Sahih Intl. [And asking them], "What put you into Saqar?"
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 43
قَالُواۡ لَمۡ نَكُ مِنَ ٱ لۡمُصَلِّي نَ ٤٣
EN · Sahih Intl. They will say, "We were not of those who prayed,
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 44
وَلَمۡ نَكُ نُطۡ عِمُ ٱ لۡمِسۡكِي نَ ٤٤
EN · Sahih Intl. Nor did we used to feed the poor.
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 45
وَكُنّ َا نَخُوضُ مَعَ ٱ لۡخَا ٓئِضِي نَ ٤٥
EN · Sahih Intl. And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who engaged [in it],
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 46
وَكُنّ َا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوۡمِ ٱ ل دِّي نِ ٤٦
EN · Sahih Intl. And we used to deny the Day of Recompense
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 47
حَتَّىٰٓ أَتَـٰ نَا ٱ لۡيَقِي نُ ٤٧
EN · Sahih Intl. Until there came to us the certainty [i.e., death]."
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 48
فَمَا تَنف َعُهُمۡ شَفَـٰ عَةُ ٱ ل شَّـٰ فِعِي نَ ٤٨
EN · Sahih Intl. So there will not benefit them the intercession of [any] intercessors.
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 49
فَمَا لَهُمۡ عَنِ ٱ ل تَّذۡكِرَةِ مُعۡرِضِي نَ ٤٩
EN · Sahih Intl. Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away.
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 50
كَأَنّ َهُمۡ حُمُرٌ م ُّسۡتَنف ِرَةٌ ٥٠
EN · Sahih Intl. As if they were alarmed donkeys.
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 51
فَرَّتۡ مِن ق َسۡوَرَةِۭ ٥١
EN · Sahih Intl. Fleeing from a lion?
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 52
بَلۡ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ ٱ مۡرِىٍٕ م ِّنۡهُمۡ أَن ي ُؤۡتَىٰ صُحُفًا م ُّنَشَّرَةً ٥٢
EN · Sahih Intl. Rather, every person among them desires that he1 would be given scriptures spread about.2
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 53
كَلَّاۖ بَل لَّا يَخَافُونَ ٱ لۡأَخِرَةَ ٥٣
EN · Sahih Intl. No! But they do not fear the Hereafter.
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 54
كَلَّآ إِنّ َهُۥ تَذۡكِرَةٌ ٥٤
EN · Sahih Intl. No! Indeed, it [i.e., the Qur’ān] is a reminder.
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 55
فَمَن ش َا ٓءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ ٥٥
EN · Sahih Intl. Then whoever wills will remember it.
Al-Muddaththir • Ayah 56
وَمَا يَذۡكُرُونَ إِلَّآ أَن ي َشَا ٓءَ ٱ للَّهُۚ هُوَ أَهۡلُ ٱ ل تَّقۡ وَىٰ وَأَهۡلُ ٱ لۡمَغۡفِرَةِ ٥٦
EN · Sahih Intl. And they will not remember except that Allāh wills. He is worthy of fear and adequate for [granting] forgiveness.
